GEOLOGICAL ENGINEERING COURSE
The Geological Engineer
has a preparation that allows the linking
between Geology and Engineering, performing an important role
on supported development of human activity, on all aspects
of natural resources and materials prospecting, exploration
and the multiple effects of their use.
The graduates in
Geological Engineering from the University
of Aveiro have the necessary background to develop professional activities that
involve:
*Study and characterization of minerals, rocks, soils and
water resources; *Evaluation,
exploitation and management of hydrological and geological resources; *Forecasting
and assessment of geological and environmental hazards and risks;
*Characterization of geological-geotechnical terrains, indispensable to the
great workmanships of civil engineering;
*Elaboration of engineering projects on all the above
mentioned domains.
The graduation on Engineering Geology is structured
to guarantee that its graduates acquire a solid base formation in
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, as well as a solid preparation in
Fundamental and Applied Geosciences, with particular emphasis
on Engineering applications.
During the course, technical,
instrumental and laboratorial facilities are provided for the development of practical
work and applications. It is also ensured that
students get an important complementary formation is areas
crucial for a goos for the professional performance,
such ascomputing, management and
administration,
economy, legislation and security at work. Optional subjects and
the Final Year Project will provide a
specialized formation in one of the following areas:
Geo-resources
Geotechnical studies Geoenvironmental Studies Marine
Geology
The Final Year Project can be
done in the Department or through a training period in a private or public company,
laboratory or Research Institute of the Sector, in collaboration with the
Department.
