Subject: Cartography and Topography

 

Scholarity:

2/0/3; 3.0 UC; 2nd year/ 2nd semester

 

Objectives:

Introduction to basic notions on cartography and topography. Instruments and methods on classic topography and GPS positioning.

 

Qualification:

Knowledge and comprehension of the fundamental concepts and principles of cartography and topography. Development of practical and instrumental competences on classic topography and GPS positioning.

 

Programme Contents:

Theoretical:

Notions of geodesy. Projection systems. Systems of coordenates, datums and coordenate conversion. Contour curves. National cartographical base. Types of charts. Instruments and methods in topography. Notions of positioning systems by satelite (GPS).

Practical:

Topographical charts; coordenate systems; Detailed topographical surveys; Using the GPS.

 

Methodologies of Teaching:

Theoretical and practical formal classes. Field trips.

 

Evaluation:

Written theoretical exame (60%) and written practical exame (40%)
