Subject: Exploration of Mineral Deposits

Scholarity:

2/1/2; 3.5 UC; 4th year/ 2nd semester

 

Objectives:

Deepning of knowledge on the different tecniques of subsoil exploration. Main phases of valorization of a mineral deposit. Methods of exploration under open sky. Methods of exploration of ornamental rocks. Methods of underground exploration. Analysis of environmental impact.

 

Qualifications:

Development of relationship capacities and application of given concepts. Development of practical capacities in the resolution of problems on transportation and ventilation and dimensioning of fire diagrams.

 

Programme Contents:

Theoretical:

Main phases of valorization of a mineral deposit. Methods of exploration under open sky: perforation, escavation and transportation operations; planning; exploitation methods of ornamental rocks; introduction to underground exploration methods:  perforation, transportation, energy and ventilation; dismounting methods; planning; security; environmental impact.

Theoretical and Practical and Practical:

Study visits to Portuguese companies; problem resolutions of transportation and ventilation, dimensioning of fire diagrams.

 

Methodologies of Teaching:

Theoretical, Theoretical and Practical, and Practical formal classes. Study visits to Portugese companies.

 

Evaluation:

Written theoretical exame (60%) and written practical exame (40%).

 

Pre-requirements:

Mineral Deposits, Mechanics of the Soils, Apllied Geophysics II.
