Subject: Geodynamics
Scholarity:
|
2/0/2;
3.0 UC, 2nd year / 1st semester.
|
Objectives:
|
Introduction to basic concepts od geophysics and
its application to the knowledge of the Earth.
Deeping of knowledge regarding the internal
dynamics of the Earth and the superficial
geological processes. Geomorphological processes
including its dynamics, resulting forms and
associated risks. Geological risks.
|
Qualifications:
|
Knowledge and comprehension of concepts, principles
and theories of internal and external Geodynamics.
Development of practical qualifications on the
domain of geomorphology and on the reading and
interpretation of real geological charts.
|
Theoretical: |
Grain
scale and isostasy. Seismology and the interior
of the Earth. Geomagnetism. Geothermal gradient.
Thermal structure and flow. Plate tectonics.
Mountain chains. Internal dynamics of the Earth
and associated geological risks. Superficial
geologic processes; soils; hydrologic cycle.
Geomorphological processes: fluvial; coast;
carsic; aeolian and glacier geomorphology. |
Practical:
|
Reading and
interpretation of real geological charts; Real
geological cuts; seismograms readings;
geomorphology; evaluation of the degree of
chemical alteration; absolut and relative
chemical modifications; calculation of
meteorization indices.
|
Methodologies of
Teaching:
|
Periodical evaluation with two tests (the
theoretical and practical parts, together),
corresponding one to the Internal Geodynamics and
the other to the External Geodynamics.
|
Evaluation:
|
Periodical
evaluation, with two tests (the theoretical and
practical parts, together).
|
Pre-requirements:
|
Calculus
I, Elements of Physics, General Geology.
|
Observations:

This subject is
also lectured to the graduation of Teaching
Biology and Geology.
