Subject: Mineral Deposits

Scholarity:

2/0/3; 3.0 UC; 3rd year / 1st semester.

 

Objectives:

Introduction to basic concepts of mineral deposits: mineral and energetic resources; metallogenetic processes; mineral parageneses; classification and typology of matallic deposits. Study techniques of metallic mineral deposits.

 

Qualifications:

Knowledge and comprehension of the metallogenetic processes. Development of practical qualifications in the domain of identification and classification of opac minerals on hand samples and by the light reflected microscope.

 

Programme Contents:

Theoretical:

Concept of deposit and mineral deposit. Mineral resources. Energetic resources. Metallogenetic processes. Mineral parageneses. Classification and typology of matallic deposits. Study techniques of metallic mineral deposits, prospection, evaluation and exploration. Economical aspects. Principles Portuguese deposits.

Practical:

Identification and classification of metallic ores on hand samples and by the light reflected microscope.

 

Methodologies of Teaching:

Theorectical formal and laboratorial practical classes. Field trips.

 

Evaluation:

Written theorectical exame (60%) and written practical exame (40%).

 

Pre-requirements:
