Objectives:

Introduction
to fundamental concepts of mechanics of the rocks:
principles that control the mechanic behaviour of
the rock and rocky bulks; characterization of
descontinuities; implications for engineering
projects (engineering works). Practical
applications in engineering problems.

Qualifications:

Knowledge and comprehension of the principles that
control the mechanic behaviour of the rocks and
rocky bulks.
Development of practical and instrumental qualifications
in the domain of the mechanics of the rocks:
laboratorial and in-situ essays.

Theoretical:

Rocks and rocky bulks; characterization of
descontinuities; machanic characterization of the
rock; mechanic characterization of
descontinuities; laboratorial and in-situ
assays; tension states in rocky bulks; stability
of slopes in rocks.

Practical:

Stability
of slopes in rocks; laboratorial and in-situ
essays. |

Theorectical and
practical, with laboratorial componente, formal
classes. Field trips to works of interest. |
Evaluation: |
Written
theorectical exame (60%) and written practical
exame (40%).
